What Is A Horizontal Towel Radiator?
A horizontal towel radiator is a type of heating appliance that is specifically designed to warm towels while also providing efficient heating for the room. Unlike traditional radiators that are mounted vertically on walls, a horizontal towel radiator is installed horizontally, usually at a lower height. This allows for easy access to hang and dry towels, making it a popular choice for bathrooms and spa-like settings.
For decades home owners purchased and installed what we call is a bog standard size towel rails usually 500mm or 600mm wide and around 1200mm or 1500mm high. Adige is proud to be the very first supplier to introduce “horizontal” ([HORR] + [UH] + [ZON] + [TUHL]) towel radiators to the UK market where the width is greater than the height of the radiator. Our horizontal towel radiators come in a variety of sizes, styles, and finishes to suit different preferences and interior designs. They are made from high quality low carbon steel with chrome plating, white coating or sparkling anthracite grey finish, offering both durability and aesthetic appeal.
What Are The Available Size, Style & Finishes On Horizontal Towel Rails?
With us Adige, any bathroom ladder radiator wider than 700mm is considered to be a horizontal one as long as the installation orientation is also the same. They come in 4 different width options, which are 800mm, 900mm, 1000mm and our widest one at 1200mm. Height on these starts as low as 400mm followed by 600mm. These two height options on horizontal orientation are very popular choices for en-suite bathrooms in loft conversions where the bathroom is sometimes tucked to the side with a pitched ceiling where height is limited.
As for the Finish, we currently offer 3 options below;
Which Valves & Other Parts Do I Need To Install A Horizontal Towel Rail Radiator?
There is no change in the sense of radiator valves. Whether you are installing a vertical or horizontal towel rail to your central heating, you will still need a pair of radiator valves to connect the radiator to your pipe work. All other parts such as blanking plugs, air-vent (bleed valves) wall fixing brackets, spacers, bracket bushes, screws, plugs etc are all supplied with our radiators.
Before you select your valves, you will need to determine the pipe location and type. If your pipes are coming out from the floor boards, going up facing the ceiling, you would need a pair of straight valves, also known as inline radiator valves. This is usually the case if you are replacing an old conventional radiator with a towel rail. However, if your pipes are fed through and coming out of the wall, you would need a pair of corner valves. Using angled valves is also possible but corner valves would be a better option as with these, valve heads will be in line with the radiator and will not protrude.
How Many Towels Can You Dry & Warm on Horizontal Towel Radiators?
One of the biggest advantages of a horizontal towel radiator is you can hang multiple number of large bath towels side by side whilst allowing all to get fair bit of heat to dry and warm them evenly. They are also perfect for smaller bathrooms or those with limited wall space in height. A vertical towel radiator can often look overwhelming in a small bathroom despite usually being tucked behind the bathroom doors. But horizontal models take up less wall space and they can be mounted low on the wall, taking up a minimal amount of space and freeing up more room for other decorative elements.
What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Horizontal Towel Radiator?
With vertical towel radiators, you can only hang towels on the bars in a single column. This often results in the lower-lying towels being warmer than the ones resting on the top. On a standard vertical 500mm wide towel radiator, considering the 30mm side bars and 50mm allowance for the wall brackets, you are only left with 420mm free space where you can hang your towels. This would mean that you need to fold your large bath towels multiple times to reduce them to 400mm and hang them on the large space between the bars. But multiple folds means ticker towels to feed in these small spaces which is not very practical. However, with a 1200mm wide towel radiator, you are still left with over 1100mm free space where you can hang multiple towels side by side across the entire surface without folding them too much which is more practical This means that the towels will be heated evenly, no matter where they are placed on the radiator. Hence, all towels that you hang on the radiator will dry and warm evenly, instead of the top ones getting more heat than the bottom ones but also allows you to hang more towels to dry.
We are committed to offering quality radiators at low prices and we aim to deliver an outstanding level of service for each and every customer.
